I formed my business in 2007, and in the month of May I received my first client payment as a self-employed woman. I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since then.
My purpose has always been to connect with people through my teaching, helping them connect with themselves. We use movement, the body as the starting point to self. We weave mindfulness and embodiment into your daily life.
Really, my work has always been about relationships.
Relationship to self, mind and body, soul and spirit – like the hip joint, the femur head has a right relationship with the socket, or the acetabulum, in order to function well and last the whole lifespan. Being able to love and be loved by others depends on our ability to first befriend our own thoughts, holding more loosely our identity and leaving room for questions and growth. We are more than this body, and yet through our tangible embodied experiences we can glimpse presence and feel prana.
Everything is connected.
Whether we run, dance or do yoga, we need to refine our connection to the ground, our awareness of space to be in right relationship with gravity – strengthening our whole system rather than slowly damaging it over time.
For example, when we run we can examine our body’s micro function, like the way our foot strikes the ground each stride, as well as the macro view of our training cycles to maximize our relationship not only to quantity but quality, work and rest, stability and mobility.
Contrasting opposites make great teachers, and I love helping people find the sustainable middle ground.
When we strengthen the connections inward and internally, we inevitably become more able to see, understand and trust the connections around us. None of us live in a vacuum, apart from friends, family, society, nature. We need connection and intimacy (as well as healthy, nourishing solitude) in order to live our best life.
My work has taught me this, perhaps the greatest lessons of all.
We are not alone.
We need and have each other, always.
We are one.
My work will inevitably unfold in new directions now that I’m a mother. As I evolve, so does my business.
Some doors are opening, and others will close this year (like THE last time, indefinitely, to join the Runner’s Tune Up Online Program!) to make necessary space for Fern, for travel (do you live in Australia or New Zealand?), and for a new program or body of work to form…in time.
I will most certainly continue teaching – I can’t help myself! – but for now please enjoy all the great, free content here! I hope it will be a welcome source of inspiration for your practice and daily life.
If you’d like to work with one on one, later this year I’ll be opening up a limited number of places in my 4 Month Embodied Living Immersion Program. It’s 100% online for those of you across the pond or down under. You can apply and get on the wait list here.
Namaste,
